Understanding atomicity
Atomicity is the number of atoms in a molecule. Hโ, Nโ, Oโ, Fโ, Clโ, Brโ and Iโ are diatomic; phosphorus commonly occurs as Pโ and sulfur as Sโ. Noble gases are monoatomic. Most metals and network solids do not form discrete molecules, so atomicity is marked N/A instead of assigning a misleading number.
